4-Tier Performance Management
How WaxEngine categorizes active listings into four performance tiers, Relist, Offer, Fresh, and Performing, with targeted actions for each.
Overview
After your cards are listed on eBay, WaxEngine tracks their performance and sorts them into four tiers built around eBay’s 28-day listing cycle. Each tier represents a different performance level and has specific recommended actions. This system ensures no listing gets forgotten and every card is actively managed toward a sale.
Running an Analysis
Click Analyze on the dashboard to run a full inventory analysis. The analyzer:
- Pulls your active eBay listings live from your connected account
- Evaluates each listing’s age, views, watchers, and sales history against the 28-day cycle
- Assigns every listing to one of four tiers
Analysis typically takes 30-60 seconds depending on inventory size. You can also have it run daily in the cloud via the Automation Engine.
The Four Tiers
Relist
Criteria: Stale, the listing has aged through its cycle with no meaningful activity.
These listings are taking up inventory space without producing results. The recommended action is to end them on eBay and relist as fresh listings to reset their search placement.
Actions available:
- End, Ends the listing on eBay
- Save & End Selected, End specific listings and queue them for relisting
- Relist flow, After ending, choose to publish the refreshed listing immediately, schedule it, or save it for later
Ended cards are queued so you can relist them with updated titles and prices.
Offer
Criteria: The listing has one or more watchers.
Watchers signal buyer interest. WaxEngine can send targeted offers to these interested buyers through eBay’s offer system.
Actions available:
- Send Offers, Sends negotiation offers to all watchers with a smart discount:
- Discount formula scales based on listing age and watcher count
- Minimum 5% discount, maximum 20% discount
- Cooldown period (default 7 days) prevents offer spam to the same watchers
- Offer history is tracked to avoid duplicate offers
- Refresh, Pulls the latest live eBay data (price, watchers, views) for these listings
Fresh
Criteria: Recently listed, still early in its 28-day cycle.
New listings need time for eBay’s search algorithm to surface them. The recommended action is patience: let them run before making changes.
Actions available:
- Review, Spot-check prices and titles on newly published cards
- Title Optimization, Fix a weak title early, while the listing is still young
Performing
Criteria: Getting views and interest, no red flags.
These listings do not need intervention. The recommended action is to simply monitor them and let them sell naturally.
Actions available:
- Review, Spot-check individual cards
- Title Optimization, Proactively improve titles even on healthy listings
Tier Panel Interface
Each tier has a dedicated panel. The panel includes:
Sticky Header
The header stays visible as you scroll through cards. It contains:
- Tier name and card count
- Save Selected, Save any price changes
- Delete Selected, Remove cards from the review list
- Tier-specific action buttons (End, Send Offers, etc.)
Card Display
Cards are displayed with:
- Card image thumbnail
- Player name, set, year, and card number
- Current listing price (editable)
- Suggested price with confidence color
- Tier badge
- Days listed, views, and watchers
Price Breakdown
Click any suggested price to open the price breakdown popup. This shows the full 5-pillar analysis for that card, including comparable sales and active competition. See Pricing Engine for details.
Pagination
When a tier has many cards, results are paginated:
- Default page size keeps the interface responsive
- Page navigation at the bottom of the card list
- Page jump, An editable input field appears when there are more than 5 pages, letting you jump directly to any page number
Global Search Integration
The global search bar queries across all four tiers simultaneously, so you can find any card regardless of which tier it currently belongs to.
Search results include:
- Full card details with tier badges
- Editable price fields
- Save Selected and Save & End Selected functionality
The search also supports an autocomplete dropdown with hundreds of NHL player names for quick lookups.
Tier Transitions
Cards move between tiers over time:

Offer Offer
Every time Analyze runs, cards are re-evaluated and may shift tiers. A card that was Performing last week might move to Offer after gaining a watcher, or drift toward Relist if views have stalled.
Sold Orders & Feedback
WaxEngine also tracks completed sales:
- Sold Orders, Shows recent sales with buyer information, packing slips, and a teal “Thanked” badge for orders where a thank-you message was sent
- Feedback, Displays recent feedback with a refresh button for the latest data
Best Practices
Run Analyze Daily
Performance tiers are only as current as your last analysis. Running daily (manually or via automation) ensures accurate tier assignments.
Act on the Relist Tier Promptly
Stale listings drag down your eBay seller metrics. End and relist them to get fresh search positioning.
Use Offers Strategically
The smart discount formula handles the math, but review the offer amounts before sending large batches. The cooldown prevents over-messaging, but a manual check is worthwhile for high-value cards.
Watch for Repeat Stallers
If the same cards keep stalling across multiple analyses, they may need a more significant price reduction or better photos rather than a small reprice.
