Getting Started with WaxEngine
A complete introduction to WaxEngine, the AI-powered web app for managing eBay hockey card listings from scan to sale.
What is WaxEngine?
WaxEngine is a web app built for eBay hockey card sellers who want to move beyond spreadsheets and manual pricing. It combines AI vision for card identification, a 5-pillar pricing engine, 4-tier performance management, and full eBay integration into a single workflow.
There is nothing to download or set up on your computer. You sign up in your browser at app.waxengine.com, connect your eBay account with a couple of clicks, and start listing. Your data, card scans, pricing history, and sales records, lives securely in the cloud, protected with per-account access controls, and is available from any device.
Who Is This For?
WaxEngine is designed for sellers who:
- List hockey cards (NHL) on eBay regularly
- Want AI-assisted card identification instead of manual data entry
- Need data-driven pricing based on real sold comps and active competition
- Want automated performance tracking across their entire inventory
- Want everything to work from a browser, laptop, tablet, or phone
Core Workflow
The typical day with WaxEngine follows this pattern:
1. Scan New Cards
Upload a photo of the card front (and optionally the back), click Scan, and let the AI identify the player, set, year, parallel, and card number.
2. Review and Price
Scanned cards appear for review with AI-suggested prices. Each price is backed by a transparent breakdown showing your own sales history, sold comps, and active competition. Adjust any price before saving.
3. Publish to eBay
One click creates the eBay listing. WaxEngine generates an optimized title (up to 80 characters for eBay search) and handles everything through your connected eBay account.
4. Monitor Performance
Run Analyze to pull live listing data and sort your active listings into four performance tiers. Each tier has specific actions, relist stale listings, send offers to watchers, or hold and monitor.
5. Automate
Turn on the automation engine to run daily analysis, send offers, and end stale listings on a schedule, it runs in the cloud, so nothing needs to be open on your end.
The Dashboard
When you log in to WaxEngine, you see the main dashboard with:
- Header, Global search and system status
- Workflow sections, Scan, Review, Analyze, and Tools
- KPI cards, Real-time metrics for your inventory health
- Panels, Context-sensitive views for each workflow step, including Sold Orders, Feedback, Market Intel, Bundle Lots, and the Pulse AI advisor
Key Concepts
Performance Tiers
Every active listing falls into one of four tiers after analysis, based on eBay’s 28-day listing cycle:
| Tier | Criteria | Action |
|---|---|---|
| Relist | Stale, no meaningful activity | End and relist for fresh search placement |
| Offer | Has watchers | Send negotiation offers |
| Fresh | Recently listed, still early in its cycle | Give it time |
| Performing | Getting views and interest | No action needed |
Confidence Levels
When the pricing engine returns a suggested price, it includes a confidence rating:
- HIGH (green), 3 or more sold comps matched
- MEDIUM/LOW (yellow), 1-2 sold comps, or active-only pricing
- NO DATA (red), No comparable sales found; falls back to category pricing
Duplicate Protection
WaxEngine includes 3-layer duplicate detection:
- Publish Gate, Blocks exact duplicates, warns on likely matches
- Scan-Time Warning, Flags potential duplicates during card scanning
- Review Badges, Visual indicators on cards that may already be listed
